What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique used for energy balancing, stress reduction and relaxation. It is administered by laying on hands or hovering hands right above the body. It is based on the idea of the universal life force energy (Prana, Chi, Ki in different spiritual traditions) that flows through all of us causing us to be alive.
This energy is the essence of our being, our consciousness and our soul. As the flow of life force energy moves through our physical, emotional and spiritual bodies, it can become unbalanced, stagnant or blocked. When this happens, we experience what is called dis-ease. “Dis-ease,” as the spelling suggests, is “lack of ease.” It is the inability of one’s life force energy to flow freely. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means the Higher Power, Spirit or Divine and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
